The Monastery raises registered Maremma Sheepdogs. These beautiful creatures come from an ancient dog known to the Romans and have been specially bred to take care of livestock: sheep, goats, chickens, cows, etc. They naturally bond with whatever livestock they are put with, especially at a young age. Our Maremmas are raised on our farm and are exposed to chickens, sheep, goats and cows as soon as it is reasonable to introduce them.

We have a litter due the first week of March, 2026. The dam is our own Lady Laetitia (originally from Furhaven Farm in VA) and the sire is a male, Catone, of Mistypond Farms in KY, originally from Italy.  Both parents are registered with the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America. If you’d like to be put on our waiting list for a puppy, or for more information, please contact M. Gertrude at qopbenedictines.com or call the monastery number: 704-827-2490.
